Terms of Service

Effective Date: March 5, 2026

Welcome to Roll. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Roll mobile application ("App") operated by Roll ("we," "our," or "us"). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Basics

Roll is a weekly photo-sharing app. You take photos, they develop on Sundays, and you share a curated grid with friends. Simple as that.

To use Roll, you must:

2. Your Account

You're responsible for your account and everything that happens through it. Keep your login credentials secure. If you suspect unauthorized access, contact us immediately.

Your username must be unique and between 3-20 characters. We reserve the right to reclaim usernames that are inactive, misleading, or violate these Terms.

You may only have one account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions (like the 24-shutter limit or 5-appreciate limit) is not allowed.

3. Your Photos and Content

You own your photos. Roll does not claim ownership of any content you create or share through the App.

By posting photos to Roll, you grant us a limited license to:

This license exists solely to operate the App. We will never use your photos for advertising, marketing, or any purpose outside of delivering the Roll experience to you and your friends.

When you delete your account, your photos and grids are permanently removed from our servers.

4. Acceptable Use

Roll is a space for real moments shared with friends. To keep it that way, you agree not to:

We reserve the right to remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, at our discretion.

5. How Roll Works

Roll operates on a weekly cycle:

These constraints are by design. They are not bugs, limitations, or features we forgot to build. If you're looking for unlimited photos, instant previews, or real-time sharing, Roll isn't the right app for you — and that's okay.

We may adjust timing, limits, or features as we improve the App. We'll communicate significant changes.

6. Friends and Social Features

Roll uses a mutual friendship model. Both parties must accept a friend connection. There are no followers, no public profiles, and no one-way relationships.

You can remove a friend at any time. When you do, they lose access to your grids and you lose access to theirs.

Appreciates are limited to 5 per week by design. They are private — only the recipient knows.

7. Intellectual Property

The Roll name, logo (including the aperture wordmark), design, and App are owned by us. You may not use our branding without written permission, except as needed to share or discuss the App normally (like telling friends about it).

8. Disclaimers

Roll is provided "as is" and "as available." We do our best to keep things running smoothly, but we can't guarantee:

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Roll shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of photos, or loss of social connections, arising from your use of the App.

Our total liability for any claim related to the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (which, since Roll is free, is zero).

10. Account Termination

You can delete your account at any time from Settings within the App. Account deletion is permanent and removes all your data, photos, grids, and social connections.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. If we do, we'll try to let you know why, unless doing so would be impractical or compromise safety.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll notify you of material changes through the App. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of California.
